Community Reading Day

Kaleke Kasome Foundation in Mpigi was founded by Maurice Hasa to promote Girl Child Education, and child literacy in Uganda. The children here were separated into about three groups, to which each designated facilitator read the books out loud with the children; happily singing and mimicking characters. The key is selecting books that are relatable and familiar to the children, with a dose of novelty and wonder.

A lot of parents, teachers and guardians are not aware of how vital they are in the campaign to foster proper early childhood development, and promote child literacy in Uganda as a whole. This is why we sit down with the parents and teachers of communities like Mpigi, and have talks about the importance of getting your child to regularly read to and with them.
